Yesterday morning I was reading the Bible (it was the King James Version) in Romans 6:13
“ Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”
There was a note for the word instruments Greek- Arms, Weapons
The Douay-Rheims is nearly word for word identical to the KJV here including ‘instruments’ so I decided to check this word in the Vulgate.
“sed neque exhibeatis membra vestra arma iniquitatis peccato sed exhibete vos Deo tamquam ex mortuis viventes et membra vestra arma iustitiae Deo”
Sure enough; Arma = arms (weapons)
So when one is in sin the members of oneself, the various faculties etc. are weapons of iniquity and when one is in grace the members of the person are weapons of justice.
There is no neutrality in the spiritual combat.
Yield not your members as weapons of iniquity unto sin, but yield yourself unto God, as those alive from the dead, and your members as weapons of justice unto God.
