Our Lady of Victory

Well it’s a little late in the day but….

Today is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, originally the feast was named ‘Our Lady of Victory. It celebrates the Christian victory over the Mohammadan Ottomans at the naval battle of Lepanto in 1571. Pope Pius V had asked the faithful to pray the Rosary for a positive outcome to the battle. At the time the Ottoman navy was the most powerful in the world, Italy and Europe was very much in danger of being invaded. GK Chesterton wrote a poem about the battle which I’m sure many Catholic bloggers have posted today.

The Rosary is a powerful weapon against sin and the powers of darkness, St. Padre Pio called it his sword. Let us take it up in our age against the many threats to souls in the world today.
